It was dance, drama, music all the way

It was time for students of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprasth University (GGSIP) to let their hair down. ‘Anugoonj 2012’, the three-day cultural festival of the college, organised at Dwarka Campus concluded with rock band Bombay Rockers recently. The last day also had students vying for the title of ‘Mr and Ms Anugoonj 2012’.

Neeraj Kumar, member of the students’ union, outlined various security and procedural issues regarding the fest. “Participants had to submit their identity cards at the gate. The others needed a pass to enter the college during the fest. Each student had one pass because of security reasons. NSS and NCC teams were spruced up to ensure that the security is maintained and people without passes don’t get in,” says Neeraj.

Before its concluding day, play Duvidha based on writer Vijay Dan Detha’s short story was staged by the students of the university. The act was specially put up by the students of school of humanities and social sciences of the university. This event was followed by a ramp walk that was an instant hit among the students. The show-stopper was a performance by Sufi singers Wadali Brothers on the inaugural day of the festival.

More than 5,000 students gathered to watch these singers perform live. “I had heard so much about these artistes but I listened to Wadali Brothers live for the first time in my life and I felt so excited. It was far more interesting than any rock show that I had attended in the past,” says Suraj Rana, student GGSIP.

Apart from these events, around 40 different events based on music, dance, literature, theatre and fine arts were organised during the mega cultural conclave. According to professor Anup Singh Beniwal, director, students welfare of the university, colour, culture and creativity were focus areas of this year’s annual cultural festival. “We tried to bring together all kinds of exciting events under one roof. I am sure students would have enjoyed to the hilt,” says Anup.

Around 75,000 students from 106 affiliated colleges of the university participated in the event.
