‘Model house’ being readied within 15 days

The district administration is constructing three models of houses to rehabilitate the flood victims of Kodagu, of which, the work on a house is nearing completion.

The house is being constructed by Composite Technologies Ltd on a land near the RTO office, at Galibeedu Gram Panchayat. The labourers are giving final touches to the model house.

The district administration had accelerated the work on rehabilitation of flood victims by creating layouts in the identified land.

Plans have been chalked out to provide drains, parks, roads, and drinking water facilities in the identified 110 acres of land for the rehabilitation of the victims.

According to the officials, the houses will be constructed as per the designs approved by the victims. The houses will be sturdy enough to resist the rain and wind in the district. Materials which last long are being used for the construction of the houses, said a civil engineer.

Composite Technologies is constructing houses at a cost of Rs 6 lakh. The house will have an entrance, bedroom, kitchen, toilet and bathroom. The work on laying tiles, electricity connection and painting is pending.

Project engineer Harsha said, “Another model of the house is being constructed by Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation and about 70% of the work is complete. The unit cost of the house is Rs 6.50 lakh. In this model of the house, the family members can expand the rooms in the future. The work will be completed within a week.”

The two-bedroom houses are being constructed by R V Taific and the unit cost will be around Rs 9 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The government has fixed Rs 7 lakh for each of this model of the house.

Using the latest technology, the work on a house is being completed within 15 days. The foundation for the house was laid on September 11.

Speaking to DH, Special Deputy Commissioner Jagadish said, “In the first phase, 900 houses will be constructed. The selection of houses will be completed in a meeting to be held under the presidentship of District-In-charge Minister Sa Ra Mahesh.”
