More markets in Mangaluru to be upgraded: Khader

An amount of Rs 41 crore had been released for the upgrade of the Kankanady market, District In-charge Minister U T Khader said on Sunday.

He was speaking after inaugurating the new market complex at Urwa.

The minister stated that a tender has been floated for upgrade of the Kadri market and Rs 12.30 crore has been released for the work. The work on Kavoor market is in the final stages while the work on a state-of-the-art market complex in Surathkal has begun.

“The newly inaugurated Urwa Market complex, constructed at a cost of Rs 11.72 crore, comprises 112 stalls, with 21 stalls being identified for sale of fish, eight for chicken and 68 other stalls. In addition, there are 15 commercial stalls. The stalls will be distributed to vendors by auction. Stalls has been reserved for vendors of the old market. The vendors will shift from the makeshift to the new market complex soon,” Khader said.

MLC Ivan D’Souza, Mangaluru South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath, Mayor Bhaskar K Moily, Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil and MUDA Commissioner Shrikanth Rao were present during the inauguration.
