Mythological play in Konkani

Konkani Samskruthika Sangha, in association with Mangalore University Konkani study chair, will stage a mythological drama, ‘Jnathi Janangelo Rayu Jnaneshwaru’, at Town Hall at 5.30 pm, on October 12.

Konkani Samskruthika Sangha president Vitthala Kudva M told reporters on Wednesday, that the play is directed by Ramadasa Gulwadi. The 81-year-old Gulvadi is known for his expertise in light and sound effects in his plays. 14 artistes will act in the play. The Konkani play is based on the life of Saint Jnaneshwar, who belonged to 13th century.

Prior to the play, a workshop will be conducted by Pandit Mangesh Kadam, the convener of Gurukula near Jnaneshwar’s Samadhi in Alandi and litterateur Arun Ubhaykar from Kumta. Mangalore University in-charge vice chancellor Prof Kishor Kumar C K and Konkani Study chair convener Dr Jayavanth Nayak will be present.

Konkani study centre convener Jayavantha Nayak, former chairman M R Kamat and theatreperson Ramdas Gulvadi were present.
