548 nominations filed for 25 LS seats in AP

As many as 548 nominations were filed for 25 Lok Sabha seats and 3,925 for 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh where elections would be held in one go in the first phase on April 11, state Chief Electoral Officer Gopal Krishna Dwivedi said Tuesday.

Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency received the highest of 38 nominations while Chittoor (SC) received 13 when the process of filing of papers came to a close on Monday.

In 17 constituencies, less than 15 nominations each were filed, the CEO told a press conference here. Nandyal Assembly segment also saw filing of the highest number of 61 nominations while the lowest 10 nominations were filed in Palakonda and Parvatipuram.

In Mangalagiri constituency, where Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu's son Nara Lokesh is contesting, 50 nominations were filed. Less than 15 nominations were filed in 118 Assembly segments, he added.

The last date for withdrawal of nominations is March 28.

The Election Commission also published the final electoral rolls with the number of electors in the state touching 3,93,45,717, an increase of 26,24,109 voters as compared to the 2014 election.

Women voters (1,98,79,421) outnumbered men (1,94,62,339) while there were 3,957 transgenders as well.

As many as 10,15,219 first-time voters in the 18-19 age group have also been included in the list.

The CEO said 25,54,449 new voters were added to the rolls after January 11, when the special summary revision was completed, and 1,41,823 deleted.

Guntur district has the highest number of voters at 39,74,491, followed by Visakhapatnam at 35,78,458.

Vizianagaram has the lowest number of 18,18,113 voters, according to the data released by the CEO.

Enforcement teams have seized Rs 57.73 crore in cash and 4.67 lakh litres of liquor worth Rs 17 crore.

More than 87 kg of gold, 239 kg of silver, over 1000 kg of ganja and other items like sarees, cellular phones, dress material, all worth over Rs 22.15 crore, were also seized during search operations, the CEO said.
