After 4 yrs, Chargesheet against cop in harassment case

Four years after an FIR was lodged against former superintendent of police of Kaimur, Pushkar Anand, for sexually exploiting a female colleague, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a chargesheet in the case.

The chargesheet has been submitted to the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate of Bhabua, Vibha Dwivedi.

The investigation carried out by DSP CID Mamata Kalyani has found that the charges levelled by the woman police officer, who was then posted as a DSP in Kaimur, against the ex-SP are true.

The victim had lodged an FIR (No 47/14) in December 2014 claiming that two days after joining as Kaimur DSP in July 2014, Anand proposed her to marry him by sending messages through Facebook and WhatsApp.

Serving as sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) in Kaimur, she said that in the following months when their marriage looked certain, they established an intimate relationship and stayed at each other’s place.

She further complained that when her parents requested the SP to fix the marriage date, Anand refused on the ground that his and the woman officer's horoscope didn't match.

She named Anand’s father Uma Kant Mehta and mother Asha Mehta also in the FIR.

The CID probe has, however, exonerated Anand’s parents as it didn't find any proof against them.

The probe team, however, filed a chargesheet against Anand under Section 376 C ("sexual intercourse by person in authority"), Section 354 A (sexual harassment), Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and Section 509 (outraging modesty of a woman).

“I am surprised at the chargesheet. I will move the Patna High court to get justice,” Anand said.

He is currently posted as commandant, mounted military police, Ara.
