Bihar board goof ups on intermediate results

Last Updated 01 October 2018, 08:35 IST

In yet another comedy of errors, the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has given zero marks to several intermediate students who recently cleared the Joint Entrance Examination (Mains).

This is the third consecutive year when the board is drawing flak for its major goof-ups.

The classic example of the “reign of error” prevalent on the BSEB campus is of Bajrangi Kumar of Saran district. He cleared his JEE (Mains) but secured zero in physics and chemistry in the intermediate result.

Now he is running from pillar to post to find out how and where the officials erred.

Another glaring case is that of Sonu Kumar who had secured the 5,000th rank in this year’s JEE (Mains).

But he was aghast to find that in different science subject, he has been awarded marks ranging from three to five.

Thousands of students like Bajrangi and Sonu on Friday took to streets and stormed the BSEB office in Patna to protest the callous approach of teachers in awarding marks.

To buttress their point, they pointed out yet another example of Board’s goof-up.

Keshav Kumar of RKD College has secured 66 marks (in Alternative English) out of 50.

Though the board initially said that it had reverified the marks and credentials of students, it gave in when pointed out major discrepancies in the intermediate result.

“The students can apply for scrutiny of their marks from June 9 onwards,” BSEB chairman Anand Kishore said.

The BSEB had drawn nationwide flak in both 2016 and 2017 on the issue of Bihar intermediate toppers.

One of the toppers in 2016, Ruby Rai had to go to jail for forgery. The then BSEB chairman L P Singh was also put behind bars.
