BJP MLA 'garlands' UP engineer with notes

In a brazen display of power, a BJP MLA from Banda district of Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday barged into the office of a senior engineer with Jal Nigam (water supply department) and garlanded him with currency notes accusing him of indulging in corrupt practices.

"I have heard that you take bribe. So this is a currency garland for you," Brajesh Prajapati said as he garlanded M C Srivastava, the superintending engineer.

Prajapati later barged into another office of the department and locked it from outside after driving away the employees saying that they did not do any work.

He also later visited the office of Banda Commissioner Ram Vishal Mishra and asked him to crack down on corruption.

He also took exception to the absence of the pictures of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Dalit icon B R Ambedkar in the commissioner's office.

The MLA justified his act saying that as a public representative it was his duty to ensure the government officials discharge their duty.

"There were allegations of corruption against the engineer and so I garlanded him with currency notes," Prajapati said.

The commissioner, however, said that no one had the right to lock a government office during office time.

"Locking an office is highly improper," Mishra said.
