Cabinet approves Gadag-Wadi rail project

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday approved the construction of a new rail link between Gadag and Wadi.

The CCEA chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh cleared the long pending project which passes through Gadag, Koppal, Raichur and Gulbarga districts, said a statement.
The new railway line is expected to provide a direct shorter route for the people of the area and further to Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh.

The total cost of the 252.5 km length project is Rs 1922.14 crore and both the Karnataka government and the Government of India will share the cost on a 50 per cent each basis. Besides, the Karnataka would provide land free of cost. The project is expected to complete in six years.
