Call for separate Bodoland state sees revival

Last Updated 20 September 2015, 20:38 IST
The powerful All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Sunday once again raised the demand for a separate state of Bodoland carving out of Assam by organising a grand mass gathering in Kajalgaon of Chirang district.

Many national leaders like P Nirub Reddy of Telangana movement, Manish Tamang of Gorkha Movement, U G Brahma, former MP of Assam, pressed the Centre for early creation of a Bodoland state for good governance and public administration.

“The UPA deprived us by stating earlier that they would not create new states, but they did create Telangana. The present NDA is in peace talks with the NSCN but they do not have to discuss with us at political level. We demand them to take the matter of a separate statehood forward otherwise, more stern action would be taken.” said Pramad Bodo, president of the ABSU.

A few days ago, the ABSU took a symbolic step for demanding separate statehood by sending mass letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
