Delhi Police on a shopping spree for new police stations

The city police is on a shopping spree to procure several items for the new police stations, which Delhi Police Commissioner said will be operational by September 21. The items which are being procured include investigation kits, inverted mirrors, fly killers, mess utensils, emergency lights, desert coolers, digital video cameras and digital still cameras. A senior police official said each police station is likely to get ten investigation kits.

The Union Home Ministry has on September one announced the setting up of 29 new police stations in the capital, out of which seven are already functioning. With this, the total number of police stations in the city will be 155.

Delhi Police has, for long, been pressing for increasing its strength to ensure better policing and security in the capital, which ranks high among the terror targets in the country. The city police has also been sanctioned 6,478 new personnel include nine ACPs, 87 Inspectors, 535 Sub Inspectors, 168 Assistant Sub Inspectors, 1,588 Head Constables and 3,677 Constables.
