The ongoing exodus of BJP leaders to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) continued on Thursday with saffron party leader Sabyasachi Dutta returning to ruling party in the state.

Dutta left the TMC two years ago to switch over to the BJP.

Soon after returning to his former party, Dutta lashed out at the BJP accusing it of running governments like the Taliban wherever it is in power.

“The BJP is running a Taliban-style government wherever it is in power. Their actions are absolutely condemnable,” said Dutta. As for the reason behind his exit from the TMC, he said that it was due to some misunderstanding which has now been cleared and he was ready to accept any role provided to him by the party.

“I was a TMC MLA from 2011 to 2021. I had also been the Mayor of the Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation for several terms. Some misunderstandings were the reason behind my exit from the TMC. But now all issues are resolved and I am ready to humbly accept any responsibility given to me by the party leadership,” said Dutta. He lost to TMC’s Sujit Bose in the last Assembly elections.

Welcoming Dutta into the party, TMC secretary general and Minister Partha Chatterjee said that he was inducted in the TMC under instruction from the party supremo.

“Dutta was inducted in our party after receiving approval from Mamata Banerjee. He requested us to allow him to be inducted in the TMC on the same day, Mamata Banerjee took oath as an MLA,” said Chatterjee.

The BJP won 77 seats in the last Assembly election. Its tally came down to 75 when Nisith Pramanik and Jagannath Sarkar resigned as MLAs after the Assembly elections to continue as MPs.

Since the results of the Assembly elections were declared on May 2, four BJP MLAs, including its national vice president Mukul Roy joined the TMC. However, they are yet to resign as MLAs.
