Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee’s recent appeal to Muslims to vote en masse for her party shows that she has lost her Muslim vote bank. Modi also said that one can easily understand from her frustration and anger that she and her party will lose the Assembly elections.

Speaking at a rally in Cooch Behar district the Prime Minister said that Mamata’s frequent assertions that she will win from Nandigram are a sign of her imminent defeat from the constituency.

“Recently you have said ‘all Muslims unite and don’t let your votes be divided’. When you are saying this it means that your Muslim vote bank, which you considered your strength, is no longer with you,” said Modi.

“Muslims have drifted away from you. Since you have to say this publicly it is clear that you have lost elections,” he added.

The prime minister said that had the BJP said that all Hindus should unite then it would have faced severe criticism from all corners. “The Election Commission would have sent us notices and we would have been censured,” he said.

Taking potshots at the chief minister for her asking whether he was God or a superhuman as he was predicting BJP’s victory in the first two phases, Modi said that the mood of the people and her anger are clear signs that the TMC will lose the Assembly elections. The Prime Minister, in a sarcastic jibe at Mamata, said that there was “no need to trouble God” over who is winning or losing in the elections.

“The mood of the people can tell which way the wind is blowing. One can guess the outcome of the elections from your anger, frustration, behaviour and speeches. Even a child can tell that Didi and the TMC will lose. Didi, you have lost the elections. You have left the field... Didi’s defeat is imminent,” said Modi.

He said that the “words and actions” of the chief minister inside a polling booth made it clear to the world that she will lose from Nandigram.

“Every day you have to say that you will win from Nandigram. The day you played the game inside a polling booth in Nandigram and the things you said, the whole world got to know that you will lose,” said Modi.

“When her party announces that Didi will contest from Varanasi in the Lok Sabha elections any intelligent person will understand that the TMC will not survive in Bengal and Didi have to go outside Bengal to do politics,” he said.

He said that Mamata had insulted the people of Bengal by alleging that they attend BJP’s rallies for money. Accusing the TMC of rampant corruption, Modi said that Mamata has started the “Bhaipo service tax” in Bengal.

Accusing the TMC supremo of neglecting the interests of Dalits and farmers, Modi said that sensing defeat she has started to criticise the Election Commission and EVMs.

At another rally in Howrah district, Modi said that Mamata was “hurling abuses” at him as she was frustrated with her party’s imminent defeat.
