West Bengal logs highest daily Covid-19 case tally of 2021 with nearly 2,000 cases

West Bengal on Monday recorded the year's highest single-day spike of 1,957 Covid-19 cases, while 6,700 people were detected with the infection in the five days of April, the state health department said.

The death toll thus mounted to 10,348 and the state's caseload went up to 5,95,576, the department said in a bulletin.

In the last 24 hours, 664 people recovered from the disease in the state, taking the total number of cured people to 5,73,782 people.

West Bengal now has 11,446 active cases, the bulletin added.

Kolkata city and the districts of North 24 Parganas, Howrah and Paschim Bardhaman registered one death each on Monday.

Out of the four deaths, two were due to comorbidities where Covid-19 was incidental.

The 1,957 new positive cases included 606 from Kolkata, 503 from North 24 Parganas and 122 from South 24 Parganas district, the bulletin said.

Since Sunday, 26,174 samples have been tested in West Bengal taking the total number of such tests to 93,04,407.

Meanwhile, 1,47,435 people were vaccinated in the state on Monday, a health department official said adding only a minor AEFI case was reported.

"Altogether 1,36,132 people took the first dose and 11,303 got the second dose," he added.
