Elgaar Parishad case: Varaara sent to police custody

Revolutionary writer and poet P Varavara Rao, arrested for links with Maoists, was on Sunday sent to police custody till 26 November by a Pune court.

Rao, 78, was arrested by the Pune police from Hyderabad on Saturday night after the Hyderabad court refused to extend his house arrested.
Rao was produced before a holiday court in Pune which remanded him to police custody till 26 November.
Rao had been named an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Koregaon Bhima case. He was booked under provisions of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Indian Penal Code.
Other human rights activists and civil right defenders who were arrested include Surendra Gadling, Sudhir Dhawale, Rona Wilson, Shoma Sen, Mahesh Raut, Vernon Gonalaves, Arun Ferreira and Sudha Bharadwaj. One of the accused in case, Gautam Navlakha, is yet to be arrested.
