Family worried as Lalu’s health deteriorates

Family members of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad are worried over his deteriorating health.

Lalu, who is recuperating at the Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai after multiple ailments, is out on bail on health grounds. Sources close to him said that his health has, of late, deteriorated after he underwent fistula surgery.

The Jharkhand High Court had granted conditional bail to Lalu so that he could get proper medical care. The CBI court had earlier awarded him jail sentence in the fodder scam, following which he was lodged in Ranchi’s Birsa Munda jail.

When his health deteriorated, he was shifted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi. However, when his condition showed little improvement, the doctors referred him to AIIMS, New Delhi.

With the slow recovery in his health condition, the Jharkhand High Court on June 29 extended his bail till August 17 which was again extended to August 27. The HC will hear his bail plea again on August 24.

Meanwhile, as family members remained perturbed over the deterioration in his health, his younger son and former deputy chief minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav visited Mumbai to meet his ailing father. The doctors reportedly told him that “Lalu’s sugar level had been constantly fluctuating thereby causing a delay in healing the infection.”

Tejashwi, after meeting his father, said that Lalu was under “round-the-clock monitoring and continuous medical care” of a team of doctors.

“Visited my ailing father admitted in Asian Heart Institute, Mumbai due to various diseases. Perturbed to see his failing health and increased infection. Praying that he may recover soon.....”, tweeted Tejashwi.

Earlier, Lalu’s eldest daughter Misa Bharti, a Rajya Sabha member, too met Lalu in Mumbai.
