Haryana rolls out package for flood-hit farmers

Last Updated 16 July 2010, 09:45 IST

The package included free and subsidised supply of seeds of different crops and making available additional supplies of fertilisers to the farmers, a spokesman of the Agriculture department said.

The flood-affected areas include Sirsa, Fatehabad, Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and some parts of Karnal district.

The state government has decided to supply free mini kits with seeds of alternate crops like toria, hybrid bajra and jowar in the affected areas.
Farmers will also be given seeds of Basmati varieties at subsidised rates to enable them to raise fresh nursery, or go in for direct seeding.

The spokesman said that seeds of hybrid maize and moong or urad would be supplied at highly subsidised rates. Allocation of urea fertiliser has also been increased from 8.5 lakh metric tonnes to nine lakh metric tonnes and DAP fertiliser from 3.2 lakh metric tonnes to 3.6 lakh metric tonnes.
