The mysterious disappearance of a transgender candidate ahead of the Assembly elections in Telangana has shocked the Hyderabad High Court.

Expressing its shock, the High Court of Judicature in Hyderabad took serious note of the missing case of the transgender woman, Chandramukhi Muvvala, a Bahujana Left Front candidate contesting the Telangana Assembly elections from Hyderabad’s Goshamahal constituency.

The court directed the Banjara Hills police to produce the 32-year-old before it by 10.15 am on Thursday.

Chandramukhi has gone missing under mysterious circumstances since Tuesday morning. Her mother Muvvala Anithamma filed a habeas corpus petition before the High Court on Wednesday.

The police informed the court that the CCTV footage available showed Chandramukhi leaving her home voluntarily. “Whether she has gone voluntarily or otherwise, bring her before the court” the judge said. Chandramukhi shares rented accommodation with her friends under the Banjara Hills police station.

After the mysterious disappearance of her daughter, Anithamma feared threat to Chandramukhi’s life. “The bench took the issue very seriously. We hope the police will bring Chandramukhi before the court tomorrow (Thursday)," her lawyer MA Shakeel said.

The police have formed teams to search for her.
