DMK chief M Karunanidhi, who is in the ICU of Kauvery Hospital here, was made to sit in a chair for a few minutes, doctors treating him said on Thursday.

Doctors said Karunanidhi, who was rushed to the hospital in the wee hours of Saturday last due to drop in his blood pressure, continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit.

“He was made to sit up on a chair on Wednesday evening,” a doctor with the hospital said. The latest health bulletin released on Tuesday night said Karunanidhi needs extended stay at the hospital due to overall decline in his general health and altered liver function.

Thursday also saw Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visiting the hospital to enquire about Karunanidhi’s health. He met DMK working president M K Stalin.

“They all informed us (CPI-M delegation) that his condition is improving. Kalaignar (Karunanidhi) is a fighter by birth. In his life he fought in several fields,” Vijayan told reporters after the meeting.
