Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K Chandrasekhar Rao, popularly known as KCR, on Friday said he was not in the race to be chief minister of the Telangana state, and clarified that his party would not merge with the Congress at this juncture.
“The issue of merger can be discussed only after the Telangana Bill has been passed by both Houses of Parliament,” he said at a press conference at the party's office.
Echoing the views of TRS legislature party leader Etela Rajender and former Member of Parliament B Vinod Kumar, who had said that there would be no merger of the party with the Congress, KCR made it clear that he was totally inclined to see a leader like Rajender become the chief minister of Telangana.
“I have said time and again that I will not be chief minister of Telangana. I will be like a vanguard for Telangana, and ensure that all the promises made to its people are met.”
KCR warned of another agitation if the Central government deviated from the Congress Working Committee resolution to carve a Telangana state, comprising 10 districts and with Hyderabad as its capital, out of Andhra Pradesh.
