Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad surrendered in a Ranchi court on Thursday.

Convicted and jailed in different fodder scam cases, Lalu was out on bail on health grounds as he was undergoing treatment at Asian Heart Institute in Mumbai. But last week, the Jharkhand High Court refused to extend his provisional bail and asked him to surrender on August 30.

Lalu reached Ranchi on Wednesday evening and surrendered in the lower court on Thursday. He was then sent to Birsa Munda Jail at Hotwar in Ranchi.

“After completing the legal formalities, he will be shifted to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi where the doctors will examine him as he had recently undergone fistula surgery and has not recovered fully,” said Lalu’s lawyer Prabhat Kumar.

The Jharkhand High Court, while refusing to extend his bail, had said that Lalu could undergo treatment at RIMS.
