Heavy rain lashed Delhi as well as neighbouring cities on Saturday, leading to the disruption of air and road traffic. In the capital, nine flights were diverted to Jaipur and Lucknow due to decreased atmospheric visibility.

Traffic was snarled up in several areas of north, south and central Delhi due to waterlogged roads. “GTB Nagar and civil lines in north Delhi, Dhaula Kuan, Yusuf Sarai, Green Park, Lajpat Nagar, Aurobindo Marg, RK Puram, Saket and Malviya Nagar in south Delhi, Anand Parbat and Pusa Road in central Delhi and Patel Nagar, Tilak Nagar and Rajouri Garden in west Delhi were affected by traffic jams,” said a Delhi Traffic Police official.

Till 5:30 pm, 37.6 mm of rainfall had been recorded by the weather department, which predicted more rain for Sunday.

“Parts of the city will face thunderstorms on Sunday. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature will be about 26 degree Celsius,” said a weather department official.

Despite various claims of the city’s government agencies, traffic drew to a virtual halt in many places due to waterlogging, besides the Metro rail construction.
