CISF sub-inspector dies in fire at CGO complex

A CISF Sub Inspector was choked to death when he went for rescue work in a multi-storeyed government building in the national capital which caught fire on Wednesday morning.

The blaze was reported from the fifth floor of the Deen Dayal Antyodaya Bhawan in the CGO Complex at around 8:40 AM and a CISF Quick Reaction Team rushed to the spot to take control of the situation.

Sub Inspector M P Godana, who was the shift in-charge of the QRT near CGO, along with CISF personnel had rushed to the spot for rescue work.

During rescue work, the CISF said, Godana fell unconscious due to dense smoke. He was immediately taken to AIIMS for treatment where he breathed his last.

Eighteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire, which was brought under control at 10:50 am. The fire had broken out in the office of the Ministry of Social Justice and Development.

Godana, a former Air Force personnel who joined CISF in 2008, hailed from Churu in Rajasthan and is survived his wife and two sons.

Delhi Fire Service said that short circuit is suspected to be the reason for the fire. "Exact reason of fire would be known after investigation," it said.
