PDP MLA shows up in constituency

As ruling party MLAs continue to run for cover in the face of continuing protests, an alleged dissenter showed up at Maharaja Bazar locality near city center Lal Chowk to “take stock” of the situation.

Witnesses said Syed Altaf Bukhari, the PDP leader representing the sensitive Amira Kadal constituency in Srinagar, visited the congested locality along with his escort and asked the youth to shun violence.

The businessman-turned-politician was dropped from the cabinet by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti earlier this year for his alleged role in masterminding a failed coup against her after the death of her father and then chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.

After interacting with people affected by the fire, Bukhari spent some 20-minutes with the youth.

“If you don’t mend your ways, you will get booked by police and I won’t be able to help you. So mend your ways and ask the others to join the peace,” witnesses quoted Bukhari as saying.
