Rahul attacks Modi, Mamata, says little against Left

Last Updated 07 May 2019, 11:37 IST

Kicking of Congress’ Lok Sabha election campaign in West Bengal at a party rally from Malda district, Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday.

Putting the two in the same bracket, Gandhi alleged that both Modi and Banerjee were indulging in falsehood in the name of development.

“On the one hand Narendra Modi has made it a habit of lying everywhere he goes and on the other hand the Chief Minister of West Bengal is busy making false promises,” said Gandhi.

Targeting the Chief Minister, Gandhi said that Bengal is being ruled by one person and who does not listen to anyone.

“In Bengal, one person is running the state. She does whatever she wants. Doesn’t Bengal have any voice? Should one person run the state,” said Gandhi.

As for Congress MP from Malda district, Mausam Benazir Noor who joined TMC Gandhi accused her of cheating the people.

He further alleged that Noor joined TMC out of fear and intimidation.

Interestingly, Gandhi had little to say against the CPI(M)-led Left Front in his speech. His criticism of the Left Front was limited only to an allegation that during the Left Front era the state government was being run in the interest of the party organisation.
