Rahul lands in flood-hit Leh

Army chief Gen V K Singh also paid a separate visit to the area to oversee the relief and rescue operations undertaken by the Army.

During the visit, Raju and Rahul were briefed by Lt Gen SK Singh, General Officer Commanding (Fire and Fury Corps), about the situation in Ladakh.

They were also briefed on the efforts undertaken by the Army in providing relief and rescue operations to the locals. A Defence Ministry spokesman said the restoration of the region’s connectivity with the rest of the country was in full swing and the minister was informed about the ongoing operations to locate missing Army persons at Tyakshi.

The minister and the Army chief separately visited the military hospital at Leh, where they interacted with patients who had sustained injuries during the calamity. They also visited Choglamsar relief camp, where they interacted with the locals of Choglamsar village who had lost their homes in the tragedy. The minister also carried out aerial recce of flood affected areas.

While  Raju and  Rahul returned to New Delhi,  Gen V  K Singh flew to Srinagar. Besides interacting with senior officers of Chinar Corps, the Army chief called on Governor N N Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The Army chief  will visit forward areas along the Line of Control  on Tuesday.
