Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday said that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had been sent in Uttar Pradesh to ''conquer'' the state not only in the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls but also in the next assembly elections.

''I have sent Priyanka and Jyotiraditya Scindia to ensure that we win not only the forthcoming LS polls but also the assembly elections,'' Rahul said while speaking at a roadside meeting during his roadshow here.

''I have told them (Priyanka and Scindia) to fight injustice and take the state on the path of progress....our aim is LS and the next assembly polls,'' he said.

Rahul said that the Congress would continue to fight for the interests of the poor, farmers and the youths.

He also had a message for the BSP-SP alliance in the state. ''We are here to play on the front foot not on back foot,'' he remarked.

The Congress president, who was accompanied by his sister Priyanka and Scindia, once again attacked prime minister Narendra Modi over alleged corruption in the Rafale deal.

Rahul made the crowd chant the slogan-'chowkidar chor hai'.

He referred to a report published in an English daily claiming that the prime minister's office had ''waived the corruption clause'' in the Rafale deal.

Priyanka, however, did not speak though the people chanted her name asking her to speak.

Besides being appointed as the national general secretary of the party, Priyanka has also been mad the in-charge of the eastern region of the state. Scindia has been made in-charge of the western region.
