Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon is the brand ambassador of Mumbai's Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), announced Sudhir Mungantiwar, Maharashtra's forest minister.

Raveena is the third celebrity to be associated with the forest department's initiatives.

While Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador of Green Army, Actor Amitabh Bachchan leads the Tiger conservation initiative.

"I feel honoured to be part of the cause. I am looking forward to working with you for the initiatives regarding the betterment of the environment and spreading awareness for a greener Mumbai," Raveena tweeted.

SGNP, which is falls between the eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai, is the biggest national park in the world to be located within the limits of a metropolitan city.

The national park is spread across 103 sq km in Mumbai and some parts of neighbouring Palghar and Thane districts and is home to more than 274 species of birds, 35 species of mammals, 78 species of reptiles and amphibians, 170 species of butterflies, several species of fish and a staggering 1,300 species of plants.

It has the highest leopard density and is home to close to 40 leopards.

The park also houses Jambulmal, Mumbai's highest peak, and the Kanheri caves, a protected archeological site of some 160 rock-cut caves that are 2,000 years old.

Apart from these, within the forest are two lakes constructed in the 19th Century— Vihar (1860) and Tulsi (1868)— that form an important source of water for Mumbai.
