The Centre on Wednesday deployed around 800 rescue workers in Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh in the wake of heavy rain leading to a flood-like situation and to prepare for the heavy rain predicted in the region in the next 48 hours.

Two helicopters from the Indian Air Force and one from the Border Security Force have also been deployed for rescue work. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel during the day for assessing the flood situation in the state and assured her full central help.

"The Centre is monitoring the flood situation in Gujarat and other flood-affected areas of the country," a senior home ministry official said.

“The torrential rain in the last two days has triggered flood-like situation in many low-lying parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan where several people are still stranded. The rain and wind have also disrupted power and communication in these areas,” an official statement said.

The Natural Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed 510 personnel (15 teams) armed with 57 rubber boats in Gujarat and another 228 (six teams) with 30 rubber boats in Rajasthan.
