Ruckus in Parliament over Lanka issue

Last Updated 22 March 2013, 20:16 IST

The first part of Parliament’s budget session ended on Friday on an unwelcome note, when members of the AIADMK broke the Chairman’s mike and flung papers in the air in the Rajya Sabha, in protest over the Sri Lankan Tamil issue.

The Lok Sabha was also  adjourned following an uproar over the issue by the AIADMK, DMK and the Left.

In the Rajya Sabha, the uproar went beyond the adjournment of the House as harsh exchanges were made between the DMK and Congress leader Renuka Chaudhary, who was chairing the House. Soon after she left the chair, there were acrimonious exchanges between her and DMK members on her remarks against protesting members.

Angry DMK members including Trichura Siva, Selvaganpati and Vasanthy Stanley strongly protested over her remarks and termed it to be unparliamentary.
