Eleven people, including four policemen, three CRPF personnel and four civilians were injured when militants tossed a grenade at a paramilitary camp in city center Lal Chowk, here, on Sunday evening.
A police spokesman said that the militants lobbed a grenade at 132 Battalion Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) stationed at Palladium in Lal Chowk at around 6:45 pm. “Officers attended the crime spot and found that four policemen, three CRPF personnel and four civilians were injured in the attack,” he said.
Reports said immediately after the attack, security forces cordoned off the area and a massive search was launched to nab the assailants. Police have registered a case and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the incident, he said.
“If you have any information that can assist police in its investigation, you may contact Police,” the spokesman added. A senior police officer said if the recent grenade attacks are an indication, it seems that militants have revived the strategy of lobbing grenades at security forces and on the roads. “Throwing grenades at busy places is either aimed to provoke the security forces to fire indiscriminately or create a fear among them that they are vulnerable to such attacks,” he said.
