Cong, TDP, CPI form alliance in Telangana

The Congress, Telugu Desam Party and the Communist Party of India (CPI) forged a Grand Alliance for the upcoming Telangana State Legislative Assembly elections.

The aim of these three parties is to rope in many more to see that TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao never returns as the chief minister.

Telangana TDP president L Ramana, Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt N Uttam Kumar Reddy and CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy met at a star hotel here on Tuesday and came to the understanding to work together.

The three will further sort out issues with the CPM, which has reservations against working with the Congress.

However, the mood is upbeat and they said that they will convince the CPM in the larger interests of the four and half-year-old state.

Even the issue of seat-sharing will come up in later meetings.

The Congress, which was the second largest party in the Telangana Assembly which was recently dissolved, might seek a major share in the 119 seat Assembly if voted to power.

The three leaders after resolving to work together drove directly to the Raj Bhavan and submitted a joint memorandum to Governor ESL Narasimhan to impose President's Rule in Telangana to ensure free and fair election.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao dissolved the Assembly on September 6, holding the Opposition responsible for creating hurdles in the development path of the state through false allegations.

The concept of a grand alliance gained strength after Congress president Rahul Gandhi also gave a similar indication and gave freedom to the state unit to form alliances with anti-Modi parties.
