Kerala High Court protects Sunny Leone from arrest in fraud case

Last Updated 10 February 2021, 09:57 IST

The Kerala High Court on Wednesday restrained the Kerala police from arresting actor Sunny Leone and two others in connection with a cheating case.

The Crime Branch unit of Kerala Police earlier registered the case against Leone in a petition filed by a Kerala-based programme coordinator R Shiyaz alleging that Leone cheated by cancelling a programme after collecting advance remuneration in 2018-2019. Her husband Daniel Weber and employee Sunil Rajani were also arraigned and Leone's statement was recorded the other day.

Considering the anticipatory bail petition of Leone and others, the HC also allowed the police to take Leone's statement by serving notice.

While Leone maintained that the organisers changed the programme schedule at least five times over the last three years, the complainant alleged that Leone changed the schedule after accepting a payment of Rs. 29 lakh and he suffered huge losses. Leone was also learnt to have said that she was still willing to participate in the event.
