A 17-year-old youth was run over by a goods train at Garividi in Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh, on Friday after his leg got stuck while crossing the railway track.

The body of Anupoju Suresh of Kondampet, Srikakulam, was cut into two.

After completing class X, Suresh joined a diploma course in Mechanical Engineering at Avanthi’s St Theresa Engineering College in Garividi. Friday was the second day of his college.

Suresh insisted on joining St Theresa Engineering College though he got admission at a college near his home as many of his classmates had joined there.

In a hurry to attend classes, Suresh fell down and his shoe got stuck under the track. A speeding goods train crushed Suresh even before he could stand up and wriggle out.

“I got him a new pair of shoes as he will be attending college. I never knew that the same shoe will become the reason for his death,” Suresh’s father Brahmam, who works in a jute mill, said.
