A woman held in connection with her 15-month-old daughter's death at Pattanakkad in Alappuzha, has confessed to killing the baby to avoid 'nuisance'.
Athira, 24, who has a criminal history, killed her daughter Adhisha by suffocating her. The gruesome incident took place on Saturday and the police arrested Athira on Sunday night after her role in the killing was revealed.
Athira's initial version was that the child kept crying and she tried to stop it by shutting the baby's mouth forcibly, causing accidental death. During police interrogation, she confessed that the baby was creating nuisance and, hence, she killed her. Her husband Sharon and in-laws had earlier told the police that she used to brutally assault the baby for petty reasons. The killing came to light after doctors noticed suspicious marks on the child's lips.
