Stir ends, Kerala law college principal sacked

Last Updated 08 February 2017, 19:25 IST

The 29-day student agitation at the Kerala Law Academy Law College ended on Wednesday following the college management’s formal declaration that principal P Lekshmi Nair has been removed from her position.

Education Minister C Raveendranath released a statement, saying that the government would intervene if the management failed to adhere to the agreement. Classes will resume on Monday.

The protest venue near the college witnessed celebrations by students attached to various political outfits. SFI, affiliated to the ruling CPM, had ended its protest earlier, stating that the college management acted on its demands and moved Lekshmi out for five years.

But protesters, including students belonging to AISF – affiliated to the CPI, continued their agitation that peaked on Tuesday, with students and police clashing. A 64-year-old man was killed in the violence.
