<p>Mumbai’s Dharavi pattern may have been appreciated across the world including the World Health Organization and World Bank for the way it flattened the curve last year but Asia’s largest slum cluster has again emerged as a Covid-19 hotspot.</p>.<p>On Wednesday, 62 cases were reported from Dharavi – the highest so far this year – since it reached a peak of 85 on September 11, 2020.</p>.<p>The rising cases in Dharavi have rattled the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Maharashtra government.</p>.<p>However, the majority of the cases are asymptomatic and patients are home quarantined.</p>.<p><a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tag/coronavirus" target="_blank"><strong>CORONAVIRUS SPECIAL COVERAGE ONLY ON DH</strong></a></p>.<p>The deaths are low and in March this year, just two patients have succumbed to the infection.</p>.<p>Dharavi falls in BMC’s G/North administrative ward, which is on mission mode to combat the situation.</p>.<p>The slum currently has 237 active Covid-19 cases while the progressive total is 4,531.</p>.<p>According to Assistant Municipal Commissioner Kiran Dighavkar, they are focusing on the vaccination drive and ensuring everything possible to combat the spread.</p>.<p>“We have successfully vaccinated 5,822 citizens so far and are going into mission mode to vaccinate a maximum number of residents in Dadar-Mahim-Dharavi. We will involve local representatives, NGOs and PMPs. However, several of them have migrated back to their hometowns waiting for businesses to start in full swing.</p>.<p>The first Covid-19 positive case and death from Dharavi was reported on April 1, 2020, when a 56-year-old man died.</p>.<p>Throughout April and the first fortnight of May, the cases zoomed but then it was low in June-July.</p>.<p>In Dharavi, the BMC had adopted the 4Ts strategy – Tracing-Tracking-Testing-Treating as part of the ‘Chase the Virus’ initiative to break the cycle.</p>.<p>On 25 December, for the first time, Dharavi reported zero cases and then subsequently on January 22, 26, 27 and 21 and February 2. However, after that, the cases are increasing gradually.</p>
