In a shocking incident, a Covid-19 patient who staged a sit-in protest wearing an oxygen mask connected to a cylinder – for not getting bed in hospital in Nashik passed away.

The deceased was identified as Babasaheb Kole, a 38-year-old, who staged a protest outside the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) building.

On Tuesday night, he could not get a bed in the local hospitals.

On Wednesday morning, he was seen protesting, after which the corporation sent an ambulance and took him to a hospital, where he was admitted.

However, Kole’s oxygen level dropped in the evening and he passed away past midnight.

Speaking to reporters, his wife said: “Two-three days back he was taken to Bytco Hospital. From there, he went to another hospital, from there to the government medical college, where we were told that there are no beds available. We went to a lot of hospitals. Nobody admitted him. Then we came back to civil (hospital) and got oxygen for him and put him on it."

Taking strong cognizance of the incident the Nashik’s municipal commissioner Kailash Jadhav has asked the Nashik Police to probe and find out who instigated the patient to go on agitation. "The matter is being investigated in detail," he said.

The NMC security and the Sarkarwada police station are now trying to track the people who have provoked him for the protest.
