A Mumbai-based woman has given birth to twins inside a train at Kalyan in neighbouring Thane district, in the early hours of Sunday.
The woman, Salma Tabassum Shaikh (30), a resident of Ghatkopar in Mumbai, gave birth to a boy and a girl on board the 18520 Mumbai-Vishakhapatnam Express.
The train departed from Lokmanya Tilak Terminus at Kurla in Mumbai. The Kalyan station is nearly 52 km from downtown Mumbai.
Salma went into labour when the train reached Kalyan junction.
Immediately, a team of Government Railway Police (GRP) officers comprising inspector Nitin Gaur and lady constables Neelam Gupta and Surekha Kadam rushed there to help out Salma.
A short while later, Salma delivered the twins.
