Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal is rushing back to India from the US after hearing the news of railway accident at Amritsar in Punjab on Friday.
"Goyal, who had gone to the US on official trip to an attend an event, will be returning to India after cancelling all his engagement,” said his office.
Soon after returning to India, the minister will visit Amritsar. The minister directed railway officials take immediate relief and rescue operations.
Goyal was supposed to receive the prestigious Carnot prize for his contribution towards sustainable energy solutions at the US.
The former power minister was selected for the award by the Kleinman Center for Energy Policy at the University of Pennsylvania School of Design.
