Protesters demand facilities at tribal colonies

Demanding title deeds, earmarking of land for a crematorium and providing of basic facilities in tribal colonies, the members of Bahujana Karmikara Sangha and SDPI staged a protest in front of the DC's office in Madikeri on Friday.

The protesters shouted slogans against the state government and the district administration.

SDPI district president said, "The tribal colonies situated in remote villages are deprived of basic facilities. The deputy commissioner should visit the tribal colonies and listen to the woes of the residents."

If the district administration fails to disburse title deeds to beneficiaries under 94 c, and earmark land for crematorium within a month, then a jatha will be taken out to Vidhana Soudha from Kodagu.

The government has failed to provide electricity, road, toilets and water to the residents of Madalapura, Byadagudda residents.

Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy should visit Byadagutta village and listen to the woes of the 45 families, said the protesters.

Bahujana Karmikara Sangha district president K Monnappa said, "Hundreds of applications of residents of Cheriyaparambu Paisari, Tyagaraja Colony, Indiranagara, Chamundeshwari Nagara are lying pending in the deputy commissioner's office for disposal."
