‘Rs 9.13 cr for devpt of infra at beaches'

District In-charge Minister Jayamala said an amount of Rs 9.13 crore was set aside under Coastal Circuit scheme to upgrade basic facilities at the beaches.

Speaking during Republic Day programme held at District Grounds in Beedinagudde, the minister said the development of beaches in turn will promote tourism. “Under Blue Flag certification programme, Padubidri beach is set to receive Rs eight crore.”

She emphasised that the tourism project was launched in the district to boost the economy. Due to Heli Tourism, houseboat, home stay, water sports scuba diving, the number of visitors to the district had increased by many folds. .

Under Nagarothana scheme’s third phase, Rs 62 crore worth action plan was chalked out for carrying out repair works on 52 main roads, drainage system and to provide drinking water facilities. She said additional funds were released to help urban local bodies complete housing schemes. As many as 82 malnutrition children had been identified in the district. The health of 42 children had improved due to better health care facilities, she added.

An amount of Rs 96 lakh was allocated for the childhood malnutrition eradication programme which would cover 48 c hildren in 2018-19.
