Last Updated 29 May 2019, 11:16 IST

In March 2019, Apple announced an array of devices including iPad Air (3rd gen), iPad mini (5th gen), iMac, AirPods (2nd gen) ahead of its new Apple TV+ event on March 26. Many assumed that the iPod Touch, which was refreshed way back in 2015, might get a successor, but never materialised. Now, the Cupertino has pulled the wraps off the 7th gen iPod Touch with incremental upgrades.

The new iPod Touch sports a sleek body with the premium metallic shell on the back and a 4.0-inch display with bezels, home button, and camera at the top center in the front side.
Under-the-hood, it comes packed with A10 Fusion chipset, a significant upgrade over the predecessor. Now, the new device can support Augmented Reality (AR) games offering an immersive experience, which the previous iteration lacked. This means iPod Touch users can be able to subscribe to Apple Arcade and enjoy exclusive gaming titles like the top-end iPhone and iPad users.

Not just gaming, users can also install AR-based education apps education and do web browsing. With AR support, users can find engaging and immersive contents with the new capabilities of shared AR, persistent AR, which is tied to a specific location, and image detection, making it possible for the new iPod touch to display 3D objects like toys and sculptures. It also supports group FaceTime (up to 32 people).
