Many have made the faux pas of playing a video by accidentally opening forwarded content on WhatsApp. Though it is just rude to play multimedia content loudly during a silent gathering, the instinctive curiosity to see what just popped in the inbox is really hard to curb.

Now, it has come to light the messenger service provider is testing a feature that can help avoid the aforementioned scenarios in the near future, WABetaInfo, a WhatsApp community forum reported citing the latest beta version (v2.21.3.13) released to the registered developers.

WhatsApp beta (Android) now offers a new 'mute' option for videos in the editing section, before the user can forward them the friends or family. Once enabled, forwarded videos will be muted by default for the receiver.

WhatsApp is expected to conduct similar tests on the iOS version soon. Once the company is assured of weeding out all bugs, it is expected to bring a video mute option via software update to the public, probably in the coming month.

In a related development, Whatsapp is also planning to bring a video and call option to the WhatsApp Web version.
