The All England Open Badminton Championships will be the first Super Series tournament in 2015 instead of the Korea Open -- giving the elite players a two-month break at the start of the year.
“We have re-organised the 2015 calendar. The Super Series will not start before the All-England Open in March. This has been done to create a possible break. The top-10 players that mandatorily have to play the Super Series events, we have given them a window to rejuvenate,” said BWF secretary general Thomas Lund here on Sunday.
Maintaining its usual slot in the calendar, the Birmingham-based tournament will be held March 3-8 while the usually season-opening Korea Open Super Series and the following Malaysia Open Super Series Premier will be rescheduled later.
Therefore, next year’s season begins with a number of Grand Prix Gold events in January and February before the All England Open in March.
