<p>The Athletics Federation of India selection committee headed by chairman GS Randhawa met here on Monday to finalise the squad for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.<br /><br />Though the AFI is expected to make the official announcement of the team on Tuesday, it has been learnt that all the relay teams (men’s 4x100 and 4x400, women’s 4x100 and 4x400) have been selected. <br /><br />Eight athletes would be kept in the camps in all sections before a final six in each category is selected.<br /><br />This means quartermiler Ashwini Akkunji, banned for doping two years ago, has made it into the women’s 4x400m relay. <br /><br />She has also been named for the 400m hurdles though she did not make the criterion of 56.24 at the inter-state meet in Lucknow. She had clocked 57.43 while winning the title.<br /><br />In fact, some of the selected athletes have fallen short of the selection criteria set by AFI. In triple jump, Arpinder Singh, who set a national record of 17.17 as against the norm of 16.83, has got the nod. <br /><br />However, Renjith Maheswary, bronze winner in 2010 CWG, has been left out.<br /><br />In shot put, Om Prakash Singh, currently training in the US, has been provisionally selected but will need to achieve the mark of 19.79 in an IAAF-recognized meet.<br /><br />In hammer, Chandrodaya Narayan Singh has been selected but against the standard of 70.58 he has recorded 69.38 in Lucknow. </p>.<p><br />In Javelin, Ravinder Singh has been picked. He reached the mark of 78.02 in Lucknow against the norm of 77.60.<br /><br />In 800m, Tintu Luka has been selected. She is the part of the 4x400m relay team, having come second to M R Poovamma in the 400M in Lucknow. <br /><br />Poovamma clocked an Asian-leading 51.73s in winning it. Tintu was shocked by Sushma Devi in the 800m.<br /><br />Mayookha picked<br /><br />In long jump Mayookha Johny (6.56 at Lucknow, standard 6.44) has been chosen while in discus, CWG’s defending champion Krishna Poonia, currently training in the US, will need to achieve the norm of 58.39. <br /><br />Seema Antil has been chosen for discus on the basis of a 59.72 effort at a meet in the US last month.</p>
