London: Just like India skipper Shubman Gill, his English counterpart Ben Stokes found nothing wrong with the verbal banter and the on-field aggression between the two sides in the third Test, saying it’s bound to happen in such a hard-fought series.

“I think in a big series like this there's always going to be a time and a moment where the two teams are going to clash. I'm all for it, I don't think anyone really stepped over the line. I think at the end of it, when you think about it, there are 22 people out there playing for their country. It's the highest honour that you can do in our given sport,” said a knackered Stokes at the post-match press conference.

“So you can understand that sometimes the emotions and the tension can get quite high, but I don't think there's anyone in the Indian dressing room or anyone in the English dressing room that's going to bed, going to cry themselves to sleep over what was said or done out there. Sometimes it gets a little bit over-egged, I think, from an outsider's point of view. I don’t think anyone overstepped the line from the Indian team or from our team. There was always going to be a moment in a series like this when it was going to implode. It wasn't really boiling up to it, it just sort of happened.”

Bashir ruled out

England off-spinner Shoaib Bashir, who was struck on the hand while trying to stop a ball off his own bowling on the third day of the Lord’s Test, has been ruled out of the series after fracturing his finger. “England Men’s spinner Shoaib Bashir has sustained a fracture to his left finger and has been ruled out of the remainder of the Rothesay Test series against India. He is scheduled to undergo surgery later this week. England will name their squad for the fourth Test at Emirates Old Trafford in the next couple of days,” said a statement from the ECB.
