Gangpur, Kerala girls in semis

Gangpur, Odisha, and Kerala scored impressive victories to march into the semifinals of the fourth Women’s Junior National Hockey Championship (B Division) here on Monday.

While Gangpur rode on braces from Rinmi Kujur, Janhabi Pradhan and Rajita Kujur to crush Assam 8-1 in their final Pool B encounter, Amala Thomas fired a treble as Kerala whipped a hapless Puducherry 9-0 in their Pool D clash at the Chamundi Vihar grounds.
In the semifinals on Wednesday, Manipur will take on Chhattisgarh while Gangpur will lock horns with Kerala. The final will be contested on Thursday.

In the day’s other matches, Maheshwari Balagonda scored three goals in Andhra Pradesh’s 6-0 rout of Jammu and Kashmir while Gujarat got a walkover from Chandigarh.
Results: Pool B: Gangpur, Odisha: 8 (Rinki Kujur 18th, 40th, Janhabi Pradhan 21st, 31st, Rahil Tirkey 65th, Sushant Minz 69th, Rajita Kujur 59th, 62nd) bt Assam: 1 (Maxima Xalxo 46th); Andhra Pradesh: 6 (Jyothi Pilligola 17th, Maheshwari Balagonda 33rd, 54th, 66th, Jyothi Undabanda 56th, 60th) bt Jammu and Kashmir: 0.

Pool D: Kerala: 9 (Amala Thomas 3rd, 46th, 54th, Aparna Joy 10th, Prateesha K 40th, Vinya Atiyedath 32nd, 42nd, Mruthula Raj K 67th, Sindhu MR 69th) bt Puducherry: 0; Gujarat w/o Chandigarh.
