Gill takes charge on rain-marred second day

MRF driver takes 24-sec lead over RRRs Mathias

Driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia in the 2000cc N+ Super Rally format, Gill, who is leading the INRC standing is perched at the top with a timing of 48 min, 42 seconds and garnered a good 24 seconds lead over defending champions Vikram Mathias  of Red Rooster Racing and teammates Lohith Urs, both of whom clocked the 46:06. Hovering behind them is Aroor Arjun Rao also of Team MRF with  a timing of 50:35. Two other contenders for the title, Amittrajit Ghosh of Red Rooster Racing and Arjun Balu of Team MRF had a dismal day.

Meanwhile, Sujay Suresh, who has a 14-point lead in the 1600 cc class championship, was placed fifth, nearly two minutes behind leader Girijashankar Joshy. In the second spot was Sujay’s nearest rival Joseph C Jos of DDL Sports, followed by Rahul Kanthraj . Championship leader in the 1400 cc class, Vikram Devadasen ensured that he stayed in front of his closest challenger, Francis Jose of DDL Sports with a steady drive that put him in second place behind Abhijit Pai. In the Rally Star Cup, Balram CG was in the lead followed by Phalguna Urs. The two are tied on 36 points in the championship, 10 behind Karna Kadur, who limped home in seventh place.
