Australia have caught the world's attention with their sensational come-from-behind series win against India. But the man of series Usman Khawaja tried to play down the excitement on Wednesday saying the quadrennial event is still far away.

“I'm not sure. The World Cup is still pretty far away. We've got five one-dayers coming, we've played some really good cricket now. Moving forward - it doesn't matter. There's new games, new teams, new wickets," Khawaja, who scored 383 runs with two centuries, said.

"And playing cricket for a long time, I know if you look too far ahead you get in trouble. We've got to keep our heads down, keep working hard. Hopefully, if we do that, everything else will take care of itself. We're playing well right now. We're just going to enjoy this series win at the moment.”

Khawaja said they were confident of turning things around after going down 0-2 in the series. “We always had the confidence, to know that we were really close. I think there were a few moments in that game in Melbourne and potentially we could have won that game and that series. We just didn't take them. So we knew coming into this series that if we could win at Ranchi, which we did, then after that we knew that we were really close. We won at Ranchi and knew anyone could win for the rest of the series, the teams were quite fairly matched.

"The guys -- a lot of guys put their hands up in the last 2 matches -- that's why we're sitting here. India are a very good side and it's never easy to beat them. Just winning a series in India is huge. It's a tough place to come and play cricket, against a very good side."

Speaking on his own form, the opener said: "From a personal point of view it's huge. Man of the series in a one-day series in India --I wasn't even in the one-day side this time last year.”
